VISIT IN SALVI OF THE POLITECNICO DI MILANO CHANCELLOR FERRUCCIO RESTA
“It is of fundamental importance in our country the cooperation between University and Companies in the name of the research and competitiveness” states the Chancellor.
An exemplary co-operation between the universities and the business, in the name of the research and competitiveness: this is the relationship between Politecnico di Milano and A. Salvi & C. S.p.A., a company highly specialized in the design, manufacturing and testing of hardware and fittings for high and extra high voltage overhead transmission lines. Salvi is part of the Sicame group, an international group fully operative with headquarter in France.
The chancellor of Politecnico di Milano, Prof. Ferruccio Resta has visited Salvi factory in Bovisa district on Friday 8th September 2017, going through the most significant stages of several decades of partnership, together with Giorgio Diana, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano, where he has been teaching since 1980. During this visit, Salvi President Aldo Tufari and the General Manager Carmelo D’Andrea guided them to visit the Company offices, the laboratory and the warehouses.

CHANCELLOR FERRUCCIO RESTA AND SALVI
THE RESEARCH POLICIES IN ITALY
Having business partners, for a university, means to cooperate in the name of speed, efficiency and professional skill. Not only. The university can be of service to the companies in order to help them increasing the know-how and vice versa”.
THE EXPERIENCE OF PROF. GIORGIO DIANA
Since the very first beginning professor Giorgio Diana coordinated the cooperation project between Politecnico and Salvi, following the students of mechanical engineering in their studies and projects: “We have been working together in the continuous research of reliable and innovative products for 51 years. An agreement that has given rise to a pole of excellence in the solution of the vibration phenomena in the high voltage overhead transmission lines.
In fact, for each project a specific damping study is performed, based on the line characteristics provided by the Customer, in order to define the suitable type of damping device and the advised number of spacer dampers and/or vibration dampers for each span.
Salvi approach is to give to the Customer a complete project, inclusive of the study, rather than supply only a high-performance product. The software used to perform the damping study has been developed by Politecnico di Milano and systematically updated and improved by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano.
